CyberSafer Project

CyberSafer Project

Project Description

CyberSafer is a project funded by the Federation Wallonie-Bruxelles and developed in collaboration with the collective Fatsabbats,

focused on creating a supportive and inclusive space for people of colour who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community. The pr

oject will run from January to December 2024

This collaborative project is aimed at young people between 18 and 25 years old who are affected by racism, xenophobia, sexism and LGBTQIA-phobia in online spaces. On the internet, hate speech is shared quickly and widely, which can amplify its impact and visibility. When racism and other forms of online discrimination are tolerated or ignored, this helps to normalise or even reinforce them, while those affected suffer severe consequences for their psychological and emotional well-being, including feelings of isolation, fear, self-deprecation and even physical effects such as stress and anxiety. Young people in particular, can be vulnerable to racist attacks online, which can have detrimental effects on their social and emotional development.

Through various workshops and events, the CyberSafer project aims to highlight this phenomenon to counter it more effectively by collecting different testimonies, involving young people in the production of an awareness-raising campaign using videos and podcasts, working on their awareness and the tools to defend themselves, and formulating recommendations in support of those affec

ted by hate speech.

CyberSafer is a continuation of S-Com’s Vis-à-Vis project launched in 2021, which created a free, anonymous online portal where victims of cyberbullying or other forms of cyber-violence can find help.
